Susan Ellis loves the variety and excitement in expressing herself through her work.
I was born on the last day of 1970 in the beautiful town of Stellenbosch. I have always felt that I was very creative and could achieve things if I set my mind on it. I have always loved working with my hands and creating things.
During my High School years, I designed and made clothes for myself and subsequently decided to complete a Clothing Construction Diploma. After almost 3 years working as an assistant designer in Bridal Wear and creating garments on order after hours, I started my own small business , which grew from strength to strength.
While bridal design and sharing special moments with brides to be brought me a great deal of personal and job satisfaction, I yearned for something more – the ability to create without limits and boundaries – to express exactly what I felt and what I saw in the world around me. I indulged this passion through enrolling for part-time art classes and so my next journey began.
After 21 years designing bridal gowns, I decided that it was time to start a new chapter in my life and take another bold step to realize another of my dreams – to become a full time artist.
I am blessed to be able to earn a living by doing what I truly enjoy and being able to create works that not only reflect something of myself, but may also touch the lives of others. I have sold my works both locally and overseas and it is an extraordinary feeling to know that my artworks have found their way into home in other countries and cultures.
While art is much of my life, I am also a wife, a soul mate, a mother and a friend – in this I am complete. I love to cook, to be outdoors, to engage with others and to capture people, their movement and the deep emotions that bring beauty to our world.
